John Faulkner & Sandra Kerr
Tuesday 22nd October, 201920:00 to 22:00 (Doors Open 19:30)
Ancestrally from Dublin and Kildare, John lives in the west of Ireland. He has toured throughout the world and for many years performed with Dolores Keane, as co-performer and as musical director and arranger for her band. He was appointed musical artist in residence for the City of Galway.
Of Scottish descent, Sandra is a resident of Warkworth. A multi-instrumentalist who has sung and played around the globe as a solo performer, as a member of Sisters Unlimited and with an array of other musicians and singers. She has taught for many years on the Newcastle University Degree Course in Folk and Traditional Music. In recent years she was awarded the EFDSS Gold Badge for her extensive contribution towards folk music.
John and Sandra both spent their early years in London and worked extensively with Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger. Back in the 1970s they co-wrote the songs and music for the award-winning TV series "Bagpuss".
They are touring again as a duo for the first time in 45 years, with a programme of traditional and self-penned material sung and played on English concertina, bouzouki, guitar, fiddle and autoharp. October sees them performing at Hartlepool Folk Festival, Cafe Oto in London and our very own Village Hall in Warkworth. Make the most of this opportunity to see them in our area.
A short tour earlier this year prompted the following quotes:
- We're still pinching ourselves about this show. It was the most magical thing we've done yet and the feedback has just been GLOWING. ... it really was a very special event for us to be part of. - Rupert Morris, director "Sea Change" Festival Totnes, Devon.
- Absolutely class music from these two folk legends - James Fagan, Shakespeare‘s , Sheffield.
